The Information Systems and Research Specialist is an entry-level position and will be involved in the research, development and support of our information systems and related technologies. This role will be based out of our head office in Kettleby Ontario, report to the Information Systems and Research Manager and will have the following duties:


In this role you will be responsible for assisting in the research and development of industrial information technologies and control systems used by us:

  • Assist in the research and development of new and current technologies to meet organizational needs and to capitalize on potential new product
  • Program industrial controls, desktop, service and web applications as needed using various development languages.
  • Research, design and evaluate materials, software, processes and equipment
  • Develop and support the concepts, products and solutions that relate to the company’s industrial information technology systems and associated equipment.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of client expectations and industry trends
  • Research the technologies used by suppliers, competitors and clients with the purpose to improve our technological capabilities.
  • Integrate new technologies, products and manufacturing process into and out of industrial IT systems and related equipment.
  • Document all phases of research and development


In this role you will also be responsible for the proper maintenance of the operations and production technology.


  • Ensure optimized technology performance,  provide technical support and maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot/run diagnostic tests to resolve issues
  • Setting up new equipment and systems, perform minor repair work
  • Ensure records of service are properly kept.
  • Create manuals and training module
  • Support customer and supplier relationships and participate in proposal preparation and contract execution
  • Some travel throughout Canada and the U.S. is required to support ongoing projects.

 Position Requirements:

  • Engineering degree from accredited institution and/or related job experience.
  • 1-2 years .NET development experience.
  • 1-2 years relational database programming and administration experience.
  • Served on software development projects using the agile and UML development methodology.
  • Experienced with various industrial processes.
  • Excellent interpersonal and English language communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Have the ability to safely and freely access all parts of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments.
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
  • Be legally eligible to travel to the United States.
  • Knowledge of project management processes is desirable.

 Skills & Technical Competencies:

Must haves:

  • Desktop and service application development (.NET: C#, VB, WPF, WCF, XAML)
  • Design of electronics for sensor systems, communications equipment and other apparatus
  • Web development (JavaScript, AngularJS, HTML5, python)
  • Database: SQL Server 2005 to 2016 (T-SQL, Stored Procedure development, DB Administration)
  • Process: understanding of the principals associated with flow of liquids, pressure, depth vs. elevation and GPS coordinates (2 out of 4 is acceptable)

Going above and beyond:

  • Unity3D development experience
  • PLC programming
  • Internet of Things (IoT) experience
  • Virtual Environments
